Here
are answers to many of the most common questions. If you want to
know more, please contact us at jazzmastersworkshop@yahoo.com
Are
donations and contributions tax deductible?
Yes! We are an official
501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. We will send a thank you and receipt
upon receiving your support.
Do
we need to bring an instrument?
For the Developmental
Program, rhythm section instruments (guitar, bass, keyboards, drums
and percussion) are provided. It is suggested that kids bring their
own, however, as it enables more people to play at a given time.
Do
we need to enroll our child up or join?
There is no advance sign-up
for JMW. We are a drop-in program and our mission is to serve all
kids who are interested. However, some of the sites-the Boys &
Girls Club for example-may request that your child join. These fees
are very modest and enable the sites to provide better service.
Consult the program sites page for contact
information.
How much does it cost?
It is free-of charge to
all students. Adults are welcome for the Jazz Workshop Program,
and we request $20 for auditing.
Does
JMW provide private lessons?
Because
we are an ensemble performance program, we are not set up to provide
private instruction. However, it is highly suggested that students
take private lessons. Many of the mentors in the program do teach
privately, and all are keenly aware of teachers in the community.
Please inquire during one of our workshops in your area.
Does
JMW sell or provide instruments to take home?
We use the
instruments donated for mentoring sessions unless otherwise instructed
by the donor. Our mentors will be able to help you in your search
for an instrument and to assist in finding the right instrument
for your child and the best store(s) in your area.
What
age or skill level can attend?
That depends on the program.
The Developmental Music Performance Program is geared to kids with
little or no experience, ages 5-14. The After-School Program is
geared to kids in the age of group of the school where the workshops
are presented. The Jazz Workhsop is for students who have some basic
proficiency on their instruments, adults are welcome for a $20 auditing
charge.
