About JazzMasters

Founded in 2000 by the internationally acclaimed guitarist and educator, Bruce Forman, JazzMasters Workshop (JMW) puts the power of music performance directly in the hands of children and young adults from all walks of life. What distinguishes this non-profit organization is its emphasis on the time-honored mentoring process. Thanks to JMW, a new generation of children of all ages, abilities, and from diverse backgrounds, now have unprecedented access to world-class professional musicians. By facilitating weekly, hands-on performance-oriented workshops, artists directly interact with, educate, and inspire students. As a result, children and young adults are provided an apprenticeship approach to learning, a necessity for a fulfilling life.

At the root of JMW's performance-oriented workshops is an unwavering conviction: that mentoring is a key element in keeping kids in school, out of gangs and off drugs; and that accessible music education is an essential catalyst for developing a wide range of learning skills that transcend all subject areas.

Because of his deep ties to the music community, Bruce Forman is mobilizing and empowering the collective genius of professional artists nationwide to actively participate as role models and to "pass the torch" to the next-generation of students.

Having successfully implemented over 1,500 music performance workshops since its initial rollout, JMW has refined three turnkey music-mentoring programs that can be quickly and cost-effectively implemented by regional facilitators. These workshops are hosted at schools and community centers to make the programs easily accessible to all students interested in participating.

JMW has shown great agility in fulfilling its mission by partnering with other groups and organizations. One such example is USC's Thornton School of Music, where graduate students were trained to facilitate and fund a JMW-style program at the Challengers Boys & Girls Club in South Central Los Angeles. Students receive credit for their experience, while sharing in the rewards that the program brings to the community.

JazzMasters Workshop is becoming a leading force in music appreciation, training, and performance for young people through crisp execution on these key strategies:

- innovative programs for all ages and skills, with a focus on outreach and diversity
- dedicated mentors who are caring, well-trained, and professionally accomplished
- efficient collaboration between schools, businesses and community organizations
- powerful non-profit business model for rapid growth and broad program adoption
